The Coordinator of Service Learning provides leadership and facilitates the development of instructional programs and curricular activities in service learning courses across the curriculum. The Coordinator organizes faculty development programs and provides support for service learning teaching; heads a campus service learning center; develops service learning assessment criteria; and coordinates academic policy concerning the service learning designation process. Duties include: coordination with faculty, students, and community partners to develop and refine service-based approaches to teaching and learning; engagement in curriculum development and teaching of service learning courses that contribute to the development of the service learning discipline; engagement in a strategic planning process for service learning which includes all interested constituents; facilitation of the development of a campus-wide service learning approach and program design; coordination of programs and the staff of the campus service learning office; provision of information to students in classroom settings about service learning as an integral part of the Office of Service Learning; conductance of professional development workshops, coordination of professional development activity, and assistance to faculty throughout the curriculum to integrate service with instruction; provision of information to faculty about the potential needs of the service learning curriculum; consultation with faculty and academic administrators and assist academic departments in addressing service learning through their majors to improve university programs and curriculum; design and deliver activities, presentations, and course elements that increase instructor effectiveness in providing service learning instruction throughout the curriculum; the teaching of service learning courses as well as specially constructed courses that combine academic matter with specially designed techniques; coordination of efforts to establish assessment criteria of the service learning experiences throughout the university; service on a university committee; oversight of the program budget.
