About Us

Mission

The Rhode Island Campus Compact is a coalition of college and university presidents dedicated to helping campus-based community service initiatives coordinate, organize, and deepen their individual and collective work, and their collaboration with other service organizations, in order that they might make significant, positive impacts on student learning and the quality of life in the state.

To support this mission, Rhode Island Campus Compact provides resources, professional development and grant funding to assist faculty, students, presidents and administrators in building transformational partnerships with community-based organizations through teaching, service and research.

Presidential Leadership

Rhode Island Campus Compact is governed by an Executive Committee of college presidents representing two-year and four-year, public and private institutions throughout the state.

History

Rhode Island is the birthplace of Campus Compact. Howard R. Swearer, the 15th president of Brown University, together with the presidents of Georgetown University, Stanford University and the Education Commission of the States, founded Campus Compact in 1985 to support college students involved in community service and to encourage more students to serve.

Founded in 1992, Rhode Island Campus Compact was established as an affiliate of the national coalition to provide a vehicle for strategic collaboration of institutions dedicated to the public purpose of higher education within the state. We are proud that every college and university in Rhode Island is part of our collaborative work.
