Learn and Serve America - Faculty Fellowships
2006-2007 Faculty Curriculum Innovation Fellowship
The Faculty Curriculum Innovation Fellowship grant was created to increase and enhance service-learning courses that directly impact disadvantaged youth in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In order to succeed, youth need access to high quality K-12 education, comprehensive after-school activities, and the pathways to postsecondary education. Colleges are uniquely positioned to form partnerships with community organizations and schools to address these needs. Service-learning provides an excellent platform for these partnerships. By offering academically rigorous courses with strong service and reflection components, college students and faculty can make a meaningful impact in the lives of the youth in their communities.

2007-2009 Faculty Fellowship for Youth
This program offers a 2-year fellowship for faculty members in Rhode Island and Massachusetts to serve as leaders around the issue of youth development and community partnerships. Faculty fellows will serve their own campus, their identified core teaching discipline, and the region as a whole though assignments described below. In addition, it is our intent to develop the fellows into a "Practice Group" that will have the knowledge and infrastructure to continue beyond the 2 year grant period. We intend to work with the fellows themselves in the development of this sustainability model. Finally, the fellows will be both formally and informally connected with the 16 college campuses in Rhode Island and Massachusetts that are existing subgrantees for the same time period of the fellowship. Fellows will be given an opportunity to participate as part of this larger learning community over the 2-year period.
