From the president
A second-year student at Lewis University, Alessandra Morales has made it a personal priority to expand her understanding of other cultures, while also lifting up the Latino voice on campus. She has been engaged in multiple student organizations and leadership opportunities, including the Latin American Student Organization (LASO), National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), Alpha Psi Lambda Coed Latino Fraternity, and serving as a peer tutor. It is most evident that Alessandra is deeply committed to making a tangible difference on campus and in the local community.
Alessandra has demonstrated a consistent dedication to addressing social issues through both academic inquiry and hands-on community engagement. As a nursing major and social work minor, one of the most impressive examples of her leadership was in collaborating to develop Latinos in Medicine (LIM). This student organization seeks to support the growth of Latinx student leaders by giving them a chance to demonstrate their leadership skills and creativity. LIM’s engagement has focused on raising awareness about child abuse and collaborating with the Sustainability Club to grow vegetables for the local community.
Personal Statement
I am actively involved on campus, driven by my desire to deepen my understanding of various cultures and to amplify the Latino voice at my institution. To achieve these goals, I participate in activities such as engaging with high school students, attending presentations about Latin American cultures, and organizing events that create inclusive spaces for Latinx students and the broader student body. These efforts aim to nurture positive connections between students, the university, and the surrounding community.
