When your college or university joins Campus Compact, you become a member of a national network committed to advancing the public purpose of higher education. More than 300 colleges and universities across 46 states, the District of Columbia, and Mexico are already doing this work with us in ways that reflect their unique missions, communities, and contexts.

Member campuses gain access to programs, resources, and opportunities that support, connect and amplify their civic and community engagement work.

How to join

Our commitment to collective, campus-wide engagement carries through to how membership takes shape on your campus. Just how no two campuses are structured the same way, Campus Compact membership may be stewarded in a variety of ways—including through presidents’ offices, community engagement centers, teaching and learning units, and academic departments.

How membership is organized internally—who leads it, where it sits organizationally, and how it’s funded—is up to you. Many institutions designate a Campus Champion to help coordinate engagement and ensure the right people across campus are connected and supported. Campus Champions receive dedicated support, training, and curated opportunities to connect with peers.

Member Dues

We've designed our dues to reflect institutional capacity while expanding membership access to a wide range of colleges and universities. We know that institutions vary in size, resources, and structure, so our approach is meant to meet campuses where they are, ensuring that membership remains both meaningful and accessible.

As part of this philosophy, we regularly revisit our dues formula to remain responsive to our membership and to act as responsible stewards of the organization and the field. We also offer several ways to help offset the cost of membership for institutions:

  • System Memberships: When an entire system joins Campus Compact, institutions receive a 25% dues reduction and complimentary membership for campuses with fewer than 1,000 FTE (as reported to IPEDS).
  • AmeriCorps Host Site Capacity Offset: Institutions actively hosting VISTA members through Campus Compact receive a 15% dues offset (new for FY27).
  • Prorated dues for new members: New member institutions can join at any point in the year, with dues prorated based on their start date.

Annual rates for two-year and community colleges

For two-year institutions, we offer a flat rate based on total full-time equivalent (FTE). This prioritizes access for community colleges and creates a simple pathway for more two-year institutions to engage with and benefit from the Campus Compact network.

Community college systems interested in joining pay the FTE rate below, plus $1,000/campus in the system.

Enrollment (total FTE) Annual Dues
Under 1,000  $1,500
1,001-5,000  $2,500
5,001-8,000  $3,500
8,001+  $4,500

Community college systems interested in joining pay the FTE rate above plus $1,000/campus in the system. Please reach out to the membership team to discuss system-wide membership.

Annual rates for four-year colleges & universities

Dues for four-year institutions are a function of total full-time equivalent (FTE) and instructional expense per student. By accounting for instructional expense per student, we incorporate an equity measure into our dues equation, because it's a good proxy for an institution's financial resources.

To calculate your institution's annual dues, find the cell in the matrix that is the intersection of your institution's enrollment range (FTE, as listed in the first column) and the instructional expenses per FTE (as listed in the first row). FTE and instructional expense data are drawn from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).

Four-year college & university systems interested in joining receive a 25% dues reduction and complimentary membership for campuses with 1,000 FTE or fewer.

  $0-$10k $10,001-$20k $20,001-$30k $30,001-$50k $50k+
0-2,000 FTE  $2,000  $2,000  $2,000  $2,000  $2,000
2,001-4,000 FTE  $2,500  $3,000  $3,500  $4,000  $4,500
4,001-7,000 FTE  $4,000  $4,700  $5,500  $6,500  $7,500
7,001-20,000 FTE  $6,200  $7,400  $8,400  $9,600  $10,800
20,000+ FTE  $7,100  $8,300  $9,300  $10,500  $11,700
Annual rates for medical colleges

Medical colleges typically fall under one of two Carnegie classifications in IPEDS data: (1) special focus four-year: medical schools and centers or (2) special focus four-year: Research Institutions. For medical colleges that fall into these categories, we offer a flat rate based on total full-time equivalent (FTE).

Enrollment (total FTE) Annual Dues
Under 1,000  $2,500
1,001-5,000  $3,500
5,001+  $4,400
