The National Forum for Chief Engagement Officers is a professional network for individuals leading university community engagement, outreach, and public service initiatives.

The forum provides a space for these leaders to examine challenges, share best practices, and enhance their capacity to advance their institutions' engagement agendas. Campus Compact is the hosting partner of the Forum, but the Forum remains an independent network.

How does the Forum define Chief Engagement Officer?

The National Forum defines Chief Engagement Officers as those individuals who serve as the chief executive with primary responsibility for advancing a university’s community engagement, outreach, and public service agenda. Typically, these individuals report to the university president or provost and hold vice presidential/vice chancellorate or vice provostial titles. In some cases, the university structure will house these lead engagement and outreach officers in centers that are led by directors or executive directors. (Furco & Frum, 2017, p. 1). Note: The Forum has historically included a single representative from an institution whose role aligns with the responsibilities described above.
