Campus Compact EnviroCorps is the first nationwide AmeriCorps program dedicated to campus-based, community-led environmental stewardship efforts. EnviroCorps works with colleges, universities, and their community partners to install energy efficiency interventions, organize nature conservation projects and implement environmental education events in local communities. Combined, these activities help increase home energy efficiency, cost savings and comfort; advance the health and well-being of our natural environment; and increase knowledge and motivation to make a positive difference for the planet.

How it works

Utilizing teams of AmeriCorps members placed at campus host sites throughout the United States, CCEC’s program goals are to:

  • Leverage colleges and universities’ ability to make an environmental impact through strengthening their connections to the community and building capacity for their campuses and their community partners
  • Increase individual knowledge and behavioral change to impact costs and comfort related to energy usage and to support access to clean air, land, and water
  • Increase energy efficiency and cost savings for local communities
  • Improve nature conservation, biodiversity health, and access to clean air, land, and water
  • Increase training opportunities and professional development resources that generate workforce pathways and lasting investment in their communities for EnviroCorps members

History of CCEC

CCEC is built on the foundation laid by Maine Campus Compact's signature environmental programs, the Maine Partnership for Environmental Stewardship (MPES) and Maine Energy AmeriCorps Programs (MEAP).

These programs ran from 2017-2021 with AmeriCorps members creating positive change for underserved communities throughout Maine. In the Maine program, AmeriCorps members' projects included conducting basic home energy assessments and building window insulating inserts for households. CCEC expanded this model to provide more services for households in all regions throughout the country.
