From the president
Janjay Green, a third-year student at Texas Woman’s University, is an active leader in her campus and local Denton community. Janjay works to increase awareness of voting rights, simplify the voting process, and expand student access to polling places. She has coordinated nonpartisan voter registration drives, educational workshops, and outreach campaigns designed to empower students with the knowledge and resources to fully participate in the democratic process. Janjay has done this through her work as an Andrew Goodman Ambassador and Pioneers Vote Intern. Through her work, Janjay exemplifies what it means to lead with integrity and fairness. Janjay approaches social issues by addressing their root causes, working to dismantle barriers to participation and amplify underrepresented voices. She exemplifies the values of collaboration, innovation, and equity, and her ability to inspire action is matched by a strong commitment to community-building. Her leadership, vision, and heart for service make her an outstanding student leader who will contribute meaningfully to a national network of student changemakers.
Personal Statement
As an involved student leader on campus, I aim to increase civic engagement on campus. I am a Pioneers Vote Intern, a student organization. With this organization, I have led many successful voter registration drives, civic education events, and have pushed students from underrepresented backgrounds to participate in the systems that govern them. I am the current Elections Commissioner in Students Government, pushing students to engage in a prototype of what occurs on the local, state, and federal level within their own university. In both of these roles, I work diligently to pursue my goal of students having the most resources possible to be a civically engaged citizen. Being a biology pre-med student, I naturally care about any community I find myself in. Through Pioneers Vote, Student Government, and my various other roles, I hope to create a culture of accessibility, inclusion, and excitement surrounding all types of civic engagement. Texas Woman's University is the university I have lovingly called home for the past two years, so the chance to proudly represent it as a Newman Civic Fellow would be nothing short of an honor to me.
