From the president
Julisa Morones Luna began her journey in student leadership as a Senator for the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences within the Student Government Association (SGA). Yet, her impact reaches far beyond her role in SGA. A dedicated advocate for first-generation college students, Julisa has been instrumental in promoting the First-Generation Day celebration on campus. She is also deeply committed to advancing women in leadership and politics. Through her leadership in the IGNITE College Chapter at UNT Dallas, she has actively worked to create leadership opportunities for women and raise awareness about the critical need for female representation in political office.
Personal Statement
My approach to addressing social issues starts with understanding their root causes and bringing people together to create real, lasting change. Through my leadership roles in Student Government, IGNITE, and mediation training, I’ve learned that collaboration and advocacy are key to tackling systemic issues. As the Parliamentarian for UNT Dallas SGA, I’ve worked alongside university leadership to amplify student concerns, ensuring their voices reach decision-makers. Leading the effort to establish an IGNITE chapter has reinforced my belief in the power of representation, especially in empowering women to step into leadership roles and shape policies that impact their communities.
My experience in mediation has taught me the importance of approaching problems with a solution-focused mindset. By facilitating difficult conversations, I’ve seen firsthand how communication can bridge divides and create pathways for progress. Visiting the Texas Capitol with university leaders allowed me to directly engage with legislators, discuss student issues, and witness how policies are shaped. I believe that addressing social issues requires a combination of advocacy, education, and collaboration. Whether it’s working on policy proposals, organizing initiatives, or bringing people together to push for change, I am committed to developing strategies that challenge barriers and create opportunities for all.
