Kevin's double major in history and biology, his ongoing campus and community leadership experience, and his plans to advocate for ecologically sound policies as an attorney at law makes him an ideal candidate for this fellowship. Kevin's active involvement in student and community organizations, combined with his remarkable success in teaching, presenting, and publishing original research as an undergraduate student, demonstrates the strong skill set and commitment he brings as a civic educator and public problem solver. The honors and awards he has received reflect the high quality of his work and his ability to inspire others through his research, writing, and commitment to civic leadership. He will be an outstanding contributor to the Newman Fellows' network of engaged student leaders dedicated to making positive change in their communities, nation, and world.
Personal Statement
My study of history and ecology has convinced me that the only way to change the future is to lead by example. Real change comes from those who challenge themselves and inspire others to do the same. My passion lies in protecting our planet. Pollution and climate change threaten our health and survival, making environmental protection a cornerstone for civic participation and progress. I plan to attend law school and dedicate my life to climate policy and advocacy. Currently, I am involved in environmental efforts through the Botany Club at IU South Bend and the South Bend Ecological Advocacy Committee. Additionally, I serve as the editor for the Undergraduate Research Journal of History, where I create platforms for others to share their voices and demonstrate how knowledge of the past can positively shape the future. I take pride in helping people bring their best work to life. You can find me bringing live reptiles or ancient fossils into the classroom to educate others about our planet. Leadership means holding myself accountable and staying grounded as I work toward my goals. This way, I can be a person others rely on and help them achieve their dreams.
