Personal Statement
My commitment to improving the lives of others has shaped my personal and professional path. At Defiance College, I’ve engaged deeply with social challenges through the Service Leaders program, the McMaster School, and my work at Children’s Lantern, a nonprofit supporting youth in the child welfare system. As a Service Leader, I’ve organized food drives for those experiencing homelessness and led awareness campaigns for cancer. The program has given me the freedom to design creative, community-centered responses to real needs, strengthening my problem-solving and leadership skills. Through the McMaster School, I’ve participated in international research trips to Belize and Ireland, with an upcoming trip to Nepal. These experiences have broadened my understanding of global social issues and highlighted the value of collaborative, culturally informed solutions. At Children’s Lantern, I’ve seen how institutional systems can create complex barriers for vulnerable youth. This work has shown me that true support means going beyond traditional frameworks to ensure individuals are empowered and cared for. Together, these experiences have deepened my understanding of civic responsibility. I am committed to continuing this work, guided by empathy, innovation, and a belief in the power of community-led change.
