From the president
Lillian Anderson, a second-year student at Chemeketa Community College, is the returning student government president. She mobilizes student leaders to address the community’s diverse needs as experienced and represented by the college’s student body. These include basic needs insecurity, connection to on- and off-campus community resources, and civic engagement that directly impacts the student experience. Over the last year, she impactfully advocated at the state capitol for student resources and created opportunities for community engagement around student priorities, including facilitating a college-wide vote on a public measure. Lillian’s passion is to uplift student communities through resources, connection, and advocacy.
Personal Statement
As a student leader at Chemeketa Community College, I see every day how powerful belonging can be. Many of my peers are balancing school with jobs, children, and major life responsibilities. Some are the first in their families to attend college, and others are returning to education later in life. I’ve learned that the biggest barriers students face aren’t always academic. They’re about connection, confidence, and access to support. Through my role as Student Government President, I’ve worked to make our campus feel like a place where everyone belongs. I’ve seen that when students feel connected to the campus community, they’re committed to their goals regardless of the challenges they face. By organizing student events, connecting students with local and campus resources, and encouraging students to get involved and engaged with the college, my goal is to contribute to a culture where students feel supported and motivated to continue pursuing education. I’m passionate about creating systems that uplift people, not just during their time at Chemeketa but in ways that ripple out into our communities. My goal is to keep developing my leadership so that I can continue being a part of making education an equitable pathway for all students.
