From the president
Morgan Bennett, a junior at Tulane University, is a leader involved in a variety of ways on our campus. A student government (TUA) leader, Dean's Ambassador, Civic Engagement Fellow, and non-profit founder, Morgan's focus on cultivating connections benefits both Tulane and the broader New Orleans community. As TUA representative, Morgan authored a proposal for a student activity fee and shepherded it through the approval process. She was also selected by her peers as a Dean's Ambassador, a volunteer role to assist the dean in engaging students, faculty, and staff to build an unparalleled undergraduate experience, and she is one of the first Civic Engagement Fellow, coordinating events and communications to model informed citizenship.
Personal Statement
Growing up, I attended a wide range of schools: underfunded Title I public, International Baccalaureate, Performing Arts, and an all-girls private Catholic school. Each taught me two core lessons: the strength of community and systematic disparities in our education system. These experiences sparked my passion for the intersection of education, social justice, and civic engagement. I believe education shapes every aspect of life. That has fostered my commitment to helping bridge educational gaps. I serve as a volunteer student teacher, conduct research on education policy and its impact, and lobby for the protection of the arts in schools. My goal is to create equitable, student-centered policies that give every student the opportunity to succeed. Beyond academics, I work to build community on and off campus. As a Council Chair in the Tulane Undergraduate Assembly, I support student organizations and advocate for inclusive communities. Off campus, I am the founder of Morgan’s Community Blankets, a nonprofit that engages high school students in hands-on service while providing warmth to the community. Most importantly, I champion civic participation as a Civic Engagement Fellow. I believe change begins when people use their voices— I’m committed to empowering others to speak up, vote, and lead.
