Personal Statement
Growing up as a first-generation college student and the daughter of immigrants, I have always felt a deep sense of service and responsibility to serve and create environments where people feel seen, and safe and supported. I grew up witnessing the sacrifices of my family, which ignited my desire to give back to communities whose struggles I am intimately familiar with. As has been made clear through my service immersions, campus leadership, and community engagement, the best way to make an impact is through listening and presence. I am excited to learn and explore how I can be present, how I can help, and bridge the gaps that exist in our communities. My commitment to the broader social justice community stems from compassion, curiosity, and a willingness to understand the core root of our social struggles. I believe we restore, and we progress when we uplift lived experience and cultivate trust across difference. Preparing for a career in social work, I am currently challenged to find the balance between advocacy, research, and interpersonal support. I am working to dismantle systems of oppression and amplify the voices of those most impacted. I see this fellowship as a chapter in the greater story I hope to share with fellow seekers of justice, gathering in spaces of reflection and action to imagine bold, love-rooted solutions for a more compassionate world.
