Start by earning credentials in core areas of community engagement practice and receive digital badges that validate your knowledge, skills, experience, and critical commitments in those areas. Become fully certified by earning five credentials (3 essential and 2 elective) across a range of competency areas that are critical to success in higher education civic and community engagement.
Getting Certified
Earn credentials
Receive a credential badge for successful completion of each competency course.
Campus Compact’s Community Engagement Professional Credentialing Program defines “competency” as the knowledge, skills, and critical commitments that must be mobilized by community engagement professionals to advance higher education community and civic engagement in a manner characterized by equity and integrity. To earn a credential badge, applicants demonstrate competency through the completion of a comprehensive course, including a course assessment.
Earn full certification
Earn 3 essential and 2 elective credentials, then submit a capstone portfolio to earn full certification. Combine five credentials in different competency areas to become eligible to apply for full certification as a Community Engagement Professional.
All three essential credentials:
- Community Engagement Fundamentals
- Community Partnerships
- Equity & Inclusion
Plus two elective credentials in your area of choice.
- Community Engaged Research
- Community Engaged Teaching and Learning
- Supporting Engaged Faculty Development (coming soon)
- Institutionalizing Engagement (coming soon)
- Program Administration (coming soon)
Apply for certification
Once you have completed all three essential credentials and two elective credentials, you become eligible to apply for certification. Next, you'll be asked to develop and submit a capstone portfolio demonstrating your competency as a Community Engagement Professional (CEP). The portfolio will undergo peer review by senior level CEPs in the field and recommended for revision or certification. The five credentials and capstone portfolio should be completed within three years.
