Campus Compact and New America’s Political Reform Program are joining forces to support Community Colleges in exploring and piloting civic assemblies.
Civic assemblies help leaders find solutions to public problems by bringing together a representative sample of a population. These delegates act like a jury, collaborating with experts and officials and creating recommendations. Often, assemblies are hosted by governments. However, they can offer a powerful platform for any institution that wants to include their stakeholders in a decision-making process – including community colleges. As campuses strive to manage resources and meet student needs, citizens’ assemblies could be a useful tool for collecting opinions, creating buy-in, and developing effective policies that work well for the entire community.
On February 5th, we held a webinar that brought together leaders from Campus Compact and New America along with Jillian Youngblood from Deliberative Democracy.
Bring a civic assembly to your campus!
We’re interested in hearing from faculty, staff, students, and administrators who are interested in learning more and potentially joining a cohort of campuses that will embark on the integration of this new civic engagement method. Submit an interest form
