As we approach the 10th anniversary of Lina Dostillio's 2017 publication, The Community Engagement Professional in Higher Education: A Competency Model for An Emerging Field, Campus Compact is hosting a project led by a community engagement professional research team to refine the model and the functional work areas on which it is based.
We invite your feedback and suggestions on the competency model through a 6-question survey. Your valuable contributions will inform a process of refining the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and critical commitments necessary to support these critical areas of work in community-campus engagement. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and will close on Friday, March 1. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Dr. Justin Dandoy, CEP Competencies Research Team Coordinator, at [email protected].
About the 2017 competency model
At the time the competency model was published, the research team described it as “preliminary,” noting that additional functional areas should be explored in the future and suggesting that the work of community engagement professionals was quickly evolving. The original model included 6 functional areas:
- Leading change within higher education
- Institutionalizing community engagement on a campus
- Facilitating students’ civic learning and development
- Administering community engagement programs
- Facilitating faculty development and support
- Cultivating high-quality partnerships
Who should take the survey? Get started
Please take this survey if, as part of your role, you support community engagement in some form at an institution of higher education. This can include supporting programs, engagement practices, the institution’s engagement goals, or discrete engagement projects. We want diverse input, so if you self-identify as a community engagement professional, we want to hear from you.
