Campus Compact joins the nationwide celebration of AmeriCorps Week to recognize the contributions of the 80,000 Americans currently in AmeriCorps service and to honor the more than 1 million AmeriCorps alumni who have served before them.
Across the country, AmeriCorps members get things done for America. AmeriCorps Seniors mentors youth; AmeriCorps State and National members drive change through direct service to community-identified issues; AmeriCorps NCCC members respond to natural disasters; and AmeriCorps VISTA members build capacity for critical anti-poverty projects.
AmeriCorps aims to achieve results for the American people by promoting volunteer service and community and civic participation nationwide. Campus Compact, with a mission to empower colleges and universities to realize their public purpose, has a natural partnership with AmeriCorps and a long history of supporting AmeriCorps programs.
Campus Compact AmeriCorps programming supports 28 Campus Climate EnviroCorps (CCEC) members and 48 VISTA Members and Leaders. Our CCEC members serve part-time at their college or university to install energy efficiency interventions, organize nature conservation projects, and host environmental education events. Our VISTA members work on projects supporting low-income college students, K-12 students, and community members through projects focused on education, food security, basic needs, housing, veterans & military families, environmental stewardship, college access and success, workforce development, and more.
Throughout the week, we’ll be celebrating the stories and impact of our Campus Compact AmeriCorps members, and we start that celebration with #DayoftheA!
