Campus Compact is pleased to release Pathways of Social Impact: Higher Education for the Public Good, edited by Sean Crossland with Thomas Schnaubelt and Annabel Wong. The book centers on the Pathways framework, a system for understanding and nurturing students’ evolving approaches to social change. It offers a clear, actionable guide for identifying students' diverse interests and motivations for social change and tailor programs and courses accordingly. The book is an excellent resource for anyone involved in civic engagement, student affairs, or teaching who is looking to deepen their work with students.
Over three parts, this book brings readers a robust understanding of the elements and logic of the Pathways framework and concrete examples of how the Pathways framework can be put into action. The first, Pathways Practitioner Profiles, introduces the core knowledge, skills, and dispositions associated with each of the six social impact Pathways. The second section presents case studies from eight institutions that have adopted the Pathways in distinct and innovative ways. The final section offers theoretical, empirical, and critical reflections on the framework’s potential to enhance the quality, diversity, and coherence of civic and community engagement programs in higher education
